The Center supports one of the broadest ranges of cancer activities in the nation - from fundamental and translational cancer research in molecular genetics and advanced molecular therapeutics, and from population studies of cancer incidence to community education about cancer prevention and risk reduction.

The Research Assistant represents the Moore's UCSD Cancer Center and will assist with the clinical research efforts focused on fertility issues in cancer survivors, which is a pilot clinic trial relating to behavioral intervention. Under supervision, assist with recruitment activities, including implementing broad recruitment strategies, eligibility screening, explanation of the studies and enrollment. Assist with coordinating and supporting focus groups and clinical trial projects which may include, but is not limited to, the following duties: assist with maintaining clinical research data; gather lab tests results, imaging results, pathology/operative reports, discharge summaries, physicians’ notes, and outside medical records in order to extract patient data and record data in approved format for study purposes (e.g. case report forms, data summaries); assist with follow-up requests for data as necessary and assure comprehensiveness of individual patient data records; complete clinical trials case report forms; assist with compiling and analyzing statistical data and provide reports as requested by Principal Investigators. Assist in preparation of application and consent documents for submission to the Cancer Center Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee (PRMC), UCSD Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). Other duties assigned as needed.


  • Theoretical knowledge of public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, social sciences, and/or related field.

  • Knowledge of clinical research coordination, data collection and data management.

  • Knowledge of biostatistics and data analysis skills, including proficiency in MaxQDA qualitative data analysis software, R, SAS or other statistical software package.

  • Ability to follow research protocol (in order to follow protocols to screen patients for eligibility, initiate treatment plan, collect specimens, and orient participating physicians). Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to use database (REDCap), word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to work independently, accurately with attention to detail, maintain confidentiality, and function effectively under deadline pressures to fulfill assignments on schedule. Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills (using grammatically correct written English and accurate typing) to interact with a diverse population. Excellent phone etiquette skills.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to work in a changing, multiple-demand setting in order to prioritize a large volume of work and meet deadlines efficiently and accurately.


  • Experience in cancer survivorship.

  • Training in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics.

  • Spanish language skills.
