The Student Information Services team provides campus-wide student and faculty information systems for the UC San Diego community. We strive to consistently deliver quality and reliable information systems that help our campus achieve its administrative goals. Our combined technical resources allow us to build, integrate, host and deliver campus-wide enterprise systems for both our institution and collaboratively with other campuses within the UC system. Additionally the team offers custom integration and application development services, business analysis services and data management services for a variety of VC Areas, divisions and departments on the campus.
UC San Diego Extension is fully self-supporting, operating year-round (12 months of active instruction) with a budget of $47 million annually in primarily fee income. The unit has over 200 career employees, including academic, management, staff and executive, in both represented and non-represented positions. Many casual or contract employees and student workers also serve in the organization. In addition, Extension employs about 1,000 active by-agreement instructors. Extension operates in 200,000 square feet of managed space, including a large off-campus classroom facility. The unit maintains a robust online learning platform, operating 24/7 (including some Spanish language elements), with web-casting and video-conferencing capability. Extension also has a strong web presence with e-commerce operating 24/7. There are over 60,000 enrollment transactions annually, 35,000 outreach certification transactions and 25,000 service transactions. Extension supports a robust network of representatives, agents, and students (both residential and online) around the globe. Along with all of this, Extension operates two television stations, a variety of public lecture programs and is active in federal, state, local and private research and technical assistance programs and activities.
We are seeking a talented Business Systems Analyst for UC San Diego Extension Information Services (ExIS). The position will facilitate and support ExIS business analysis and services for Extension systems and end-users. Serves as a Business Systems Analyst conducting system and process analysis, business system requirements gathering and documentation. The position will also provide project management services to ensure that ExIS service level agreement is maintained for all business units.
- Applies skills as an experienced Business Analyst professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices, standards, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Resolves a wide range of business process issues on a variety of business and technical requirements and scope.
- Works with management to create functional, effective, efficient and reliable business applications.
- Coordinates multiple projects that focus on improving or creating effective business processes for supported systems and end users.
- Collaborates with ExIS application developers, Information Technology Services (ITS) staff, and other external campus departments, as required, to ensure timely support for business systems.
- Manages the planning, implementation, testing, maintenance and reporting of ExIS applications.
- Employee must be available to work evenings and weekends.
- Employee must be available to travel as required.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and three to five (3 - 5) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education & experience.
Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Working knowledge relating to the design, development and analysis of software. Experience and skills in business process redesign and technical knowledge in the research and analysis of software requirements. Proven ability to document business workflows utilizing tools (Visio, Balsamiq, LucidChart etc.).
Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Communicates clearly and concisely, and appropriate for the intended audience, and accomplish the intended purpose. Ability to effectively provide support and guidance to other professionals requiring assistance with change management best practices, policies, and tools.
In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description. Experience in the creation and maintenance of Business Requirements, User Acceptance Test Criteria, Quality Assurance, and tracking of defects, fixes, bugs and enhancements.
Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture. Working skills in software lifecycle management. Thorough understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) management processes, including efficient coding, test plans, regression testing, user acceptance testing, quality assurance, back out procedures, and staging into the production environment. Understanding and working skills in implementing release cycles.
Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Thorough understanding of and experience with the use of automated testing tools and ability to perform automated QA procedures. Heavy focus on change management procedures for automated testing. Comprehensive understanding of the design, development and analysis of software. Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools.
- Understanding and application of University and departmental policies and procedures. Understands compliance requirements for applicable industry or agency standards. Thorough understanding of campus Accessibility, Branding and Usability standards required for all applications. Validating and communicating to technical and business teams any areas not in compliance with campus policies and procedures.
