DESCRIPTION

The Quality & Patient Safety Department is proud to support the clinicians at the bedside who make a difference in patient care every day. This department shares the great work being done throughout the health system to measure quality outcomes, improve processes of care and ensure patient safety. The team is here to provide data and facilitate change to accomplish clinical excellence and outstanding external ratings. The Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist (CQIS) role is an important, high-profile position in the organization involved in the establishment and supervision of processes to achieve the optimal degree of excellence in the services rendered to every patient.

This person will manage clinical improvement initiatives from data collection, analysis, and reporting to improvement plan development and monitoring implementation. The success of this role is dependent upon excellent interpersonal, communication, process improvement, and data use skills. In addition to PI initiatives, this role supports medical staff committees, organization-wide Quality & Patient Safety education, and regulatory compliance. This position requires a leader with a high degree of knowledge and expertise to manage projects which may be without existing precedence or structure and function at a high degree of autonomy.

Applies skills and experience as a seasoned quality data and/or improvement (QI) specialist to projects of medium size at all levels of complexity, or to portions of large projects. The CQIS independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.

Key responsibilities include serving as the CMS Quality Net security official, the Medisolv Encor-a chart abstracted core measures administrator, and the administrator for The Joint Commission (TJC) Direct Data Submission Platform. Will coordinate internal Core Measure Team Committee meetings and coordinate all quality reporting efforts for the Clinical Quality Improvement team. Areas of focus for this position are likely to focus on Core Measures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five (5+) or more years of relevant clinical experience, ICU or ED experience highly preferred.

  • Experience and proven success in project management, QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements.

  • Proficiency in the use of computer programs including MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other healthcare professions, or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MSN or Master’s Degree in health-related field.
  • Experience with quality improvement methodologies.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training and/or experience.
  • Experience with Epic.
  • Experience managing Medical Staff Committees.
  • Experience with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) and The Joint Commission (TJC) ORYX Core Measures administration for data submission.
  • Experience with medical record review and data abstraction for Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) and The Joint Commission (TJC) ORYX Core Measures (e.g. HBIPS, PCM, ED, SEP-1, OP-29, OP-33, OP-36).
  • Expertise in the development and implementation of complex projects including multi-disciplinary teams to facilitate change throughout the health system.
