DESCRIPTION

The Patient Education Specialist applies extensive knowledge of patient education, health literacy, regulatory standards, and technology to develop and deliver best practice education resources for patients at all levels of the health system, including acute care, ambulatory, surgical services and population health. Job duties include developing and editing multimodal patient education materials and managing system-level programs. This role also requires in-depth knowledge of Epic and MyChart to ensure patient education is current, easily accessible, and intuitive to document. This position interacts with numerous departments and levels of leadership, and participates in system-level workgroups and committees. Knowledge of health literacy, health equity, program management and outcomes evaluation is essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months of hire date.

  • Five (5) or more years of related experience.

  • Experience in creation of patient education materials, written and/or visual.

  • Demonstrated program management skills.

  • Must have excellent written, computer and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have decision making, problem solving and prioritizing skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in Nursing or related field.

  • Certification as CHES, Health Literacy Specialist or comparable.

  • Bilingual: Spanish/English

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
