Enrollment Management (EM) is a multi-unit department currently within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs. The Unit is led by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management (AVC EM), who serves as the Chief Enrollment Officer of the University. EM is comprised of multiple high-profile, core functional units including: the Office of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid & Scholarships Office, Enrollment Management Technology Services (EMTS), Cal-SOAP, Creative Services, Enrollment Analytics, Parent & Family Programs, and the Business Office. EM’s core functions oversee undergraduate admissions and student outreach, continuing student enrollment management, and financial aid and scholarship management.
The San Diego and Imperial Counties California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP) unit provides services and programming intended to increase the number of students who prepare for and enter post-secondary institutions. The grant is administered by a Consortium of local colleges and universities, school districts, and other educational entities who cooperate to combine resources and provide matching funds for this state-funded project. UC San Diego serves as the fiscal agent for the project, administering state funds, allocated to the project through the California Student Aid Commissions (CSAC), and serves as the employer of 8 project staff members.
Under the supervision of the Cal-SOAP Director, and in consultation with the Imperial Valley Assistant Director, the Imperial Valley Assistant Coordinator plans and implements recruitment of program participants at Imperial Valley schools to motivate students towards college.This position is responsible for maintaining relationships with higher education institutions and/or community entities to implement informational, motivational, and academic preparation activities for socio-economically disadvantaged students in grades K-12. Develops and maintains program visibility in schools by conducting academic enrichment workshops; providing one-on-one advising, motivational activities, information about college preparation. Maintains relevant programmatic data records. Will recruit, train and supervise student college peer advisors and tutors.
- Occasional overtime and weekends may be required.
Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population, and sensitivity to culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. Demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
Knowledge and understanding of K-14 education. Demonstrated knowledge of state and national trends as they relate to Cal-SOAP Programs and understanding of related issues in higher education.
Knowledge of higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
Experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged and academically at-risk students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers. Demonstrated ability to interpret academic records of students to make appropriate recommendations regarding students' curriculum.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate programs and activities with other staff, departments and school administrators to meet program needs.
Thorough knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
Proven ability to conduct independent and unsupervised individual and group counseling sessions with participating students/parents.
Demonstrated knowledge of admissions and financial aid policies and procedures for various public and private colleges and universities.
Proven competency in the use of personal computers which includes knowledge of software, data-base and word processing systems
Demonstrated experience making effective presentations to both large and small groups.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18). Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.
