The RN Transition to Practice Program Specialist is involved in the design and delivery of professional nursing development programs, activities, and systems to support new graduate nurses and experienced nurses in transition to practice. Promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition in evidence-based nursing practice and clinical inquiry. Collaborates with nursing leadership and peers to tailor the transition to practice programs and resources based on needs assessments, quality metrics, and organization goals. The selected candidate will utilize this role to meet the diverse educational and professional development requirements of UCSDH nurses, patient populations, regulatory, accreditation and strategic goals of the organization / health system. This role will manage both the organization-wide preceptor training program and New Hire Quality Day program. This role will also work to support the new graduate nurse transition to practice program and the nurse mentorship program.


  • BSN.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Five (5+) or more years of nurse educator or other relevant experience.

  • Experience coordinating an education/training/orientation program.

  • Experience developing and delivering education, training, practice guidelines or policies, as well as facilitating nursing professional development.


  • Advanced degree in education or professional development.
  • Certified in nursing professional development (NPD-BC)
  • Previous experience working with new graduate nurses and/or similar mentorship program.
  • Experience working in a teaching hospital.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems.
  • Project management experience.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
