Under direction of the Senior Assistant Dean and Chief of Staff and as a core member of the Data Analytics and Reporting team, the Business Intelligence Specialist provides high-level data analytic support and project management to a broad scope of areas for the Jacobs School of Engineering including but not limited to Business Resource Management, Physical Resources, Student Enrollment, Capital Management, etc. The incumbent will assist with the research, compilation, and analysis of data collected from a multitude of sources for the purposes of generating reports, presentations, and strategic decision-making.
The position requires the integration of various sources of campus data, collaborating with data administrators, IT managers and analysts. Incumbent works with internal and external stakeholders to analyze business problems using data and technology. Responsible for scoping and gathering business requirements for business process improvements, reports, and analytics, or technology solutions.
The incumbent works with stakeholders to ensure specifications fulfill requirements and make suggestions for improvement. The incumbent is responsible for tracking and reporting out milestones, and assists with user acceptance testing. Develop reports based on user needs using advanced SQL queries to join various data sources using Tableau and Aqua Data Studio. Applies acquired skills and professional concepts to business analytics projects of small to medium size and intermediate scope and complexity.
Graduation from college with a major in business administration, economics, statistics, educational administration, political science, or an allied field, and two (2) years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of business intelligence functions and analytics. Excellent analytical and problem-resolution skills.
Working knowledge of relevant internal databases, BI applications and tools. Ability to produce reports and documentation. Intermediate or Advanced of relevant internal databases, BI applications and tools such as Tableau and/or Cognos, MS Excel/Google Sheets. Advanced knowledge of relational database management including SQL and MS Access.
Detail oriented, with strong organizational skills. Ability to organize workload and establish priorities in executing a wide variety of functions while maintaining accuracy, reliability and confidentiality with a minimum of supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. Experience developing a variety of data and written reports, presentations, and other documents.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with professional and technical staff.
Ability to train staff at a variety of technical skill levels.
Proficient ability and knowledge of using computer software applications including but not limited to CRM Solutions, Salesforce, Google Suite, Microsoft Office.
Substantial experience developing and maintaining database systems using appropriate software applications in order to conduct data analytics, e.g, perform statistical sampling, data mining, statistical analyses, correlational studies, etc. and provide summarization of data report and make recommendations.
Demonstrated experience in reviewing data and reports pertaining to resource management and decision analysis and conveying information in a useful manner to determine areas of improvement.
Experience in project management/planning and team facilitation. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with competing and changing deadlines. Excellent analytical and problem-resolution skills.
- May be required to work occasional night and weekend.
