The FAIR Data Informatics Lab at UCSD (https://fdilab.org) is a leader in developing and providing novel informatics infrastructure and tools for making data FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. The FAIR Data Principles were published in 2016 and provided high-level guidance on how to make data more usable for both humans and machines. FDI Lab’s mission is to make research data more FAIR through the development of technology, services, and policy- thereby improving accuracy, reproducibility, and analysis in biomedical research all over the world.
Incumbent is responsible for providing website, web portal, and web services (API) design, development, programming, integration, management, and maintenance for various informational, data, and analysis services across multiple websites and systems for multiple research projects. Responsible for administering content management infrastructure, and the resulting implementation and customization needed to support the multitude of site informational and analytical services, data access models, and management requirements. Responsible for ensuring ongoing operation and evolution of the site and services and coordinating retooling and ongoing development and upgrades.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Three (3+) or more years of relevant experience.
Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts. Advanced coding experience suitable for all browser types. Ability to read and program source code and troubleshoot source code.
Proven ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
Proven ability to interface with management on a regular basis. Experience in multi-tasking and ability to perform under pressure/deadlines coordinating large and complex projects.
Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to grant proposals. Strong excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
Strong software repository skills. Proven testing and test planning skills. Experience in managing GitHub projects and repositories and their deployment, including automated builds.
Thorough experience with common programming tools. Proven ability to follow software specifications.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as a team member, collaborate with colleagues, and maintain open lines of clear communication across networks. Proven ability to exercise leadership, and set positive example for campus work groups and departmental staff in meeting goals and creating a rewarding work environment.
Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to work closely with middleware and scientific application developers to ensure consistent design and to efficiently deploy new capabilities to a web site. Ability to consult on the usage of moderately to highly complex software packages.
Experience with applications execution environments including apache, NGINX, tomcat, unix and Linux command lines tools, and Amazon AWS services (e.g. EC2, S3, RDS) .
Experience with content management systems, e.g. drupal.
Technical project management skills: defining problems, designing solutions, and setting timelines.
Excellent working knowledge of and experience with relevant operating system commands, database conventions (storage profiles, data-types, etc.) and tools, communication protocols, and system utilities with advanced knowledge of SQL, NoSQL (MongoDB, Elasticsearch), graph query languages (e.g. Neo4J/Cypher)and scripting (Python, PHP) capabilities.
Knowledge and experience with Macintosh, Windows and Unix based platforms.
Advanced knowledge of web browser applications such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Netscape Navigator. Working knowledge of common and complex Internet and web based application standards.
Knowledge of emerging web-GUI application development environments including tools and object-oriented languages.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $59,700 - $124,300 Annually
The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
