Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating injury prevention initiatives Develops and actively participates in community injury prevention coalitions and works in collaboration with other hospitals and health care facilities that offer community outreach with injury prevention related activities. Acts as an advocate for injury prevention at a local, state and federal level. Instructs and educates healthcare providers and the community about injury prevention through classroom and community presentation. Writes and submits grant proposals to support injury prevention outreach and research.


  • Five (5) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor degree in related area plus one year of related experience/training.

  • Must have valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

  • One (1) year experience developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of community benefit programs. This includes surveillance, identification, intervention, measurement and evaluation of program effectiveness.

  • Experience with community health promotion and/or injury prevention activities.

  • Experience with developing and implementing health promotion and prevention coalitions and community collaborative partnerships.


  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, public health administration, health promotion or in a science health related field.
  • Formal training or extensive professional knowledge of developing curriculum, coordinating trainings and implementing evidence-based programs.
  • Formal training or extensive professional knowledge of public health strategies for implementing injury prevention initiatives.


  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to agencies in the greater San Diego area.
  • Variable hours, including some weekends and evenings.

Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).

If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
