Position available through UC San Diego Temporary Employment Services (TES). This is a temporary position. Temporary Employment Services (TES) places employees in departments that have temporary staffing needs. TES offers a variety of assignments, an excellent benefits package, as well as opportunities for skill enhancement and exposure to career opportunities at UC San Diego. Hours, salary, and locations vary by assignment.
TES has current openings for Custodians with various schedules. Assignments typically last 6 months or less. Compensation: $$17.82 - 18.49 /hour depending on shift.
Dust mops, sweeps, damp mops, wet mops, buffs and spray buffs hard and resilient floors. Strips, seals and finishes floors. Operates vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbing machine and buffer.
Clean stairs, hallways, corridors, walls, moldings, boards, outside steps, terraces, roof decks, window sills and other designated areas.
Clean doors, partition glass, showers, glass panels, inside and outside windows at ground level; polishes metal fixtures and handrails.
Clean and disinfect restrooms, fixtures, mirrors and replenishes soap and paper goods.
Empty wastebaskets and other receptacles. Maybe required to pickup, lift and dump containers into dumpsters that are 4 ½ feet above ground level.
Dust, clean and/or wax cabinets, desks, furnishings, conference tables, wall wood paneling and other woodwork.
Cleans chalkboards and/or whiteboards, erasers and maintains supply of chalk in chalk trays.
Lock unoccupied areas/offices after cleaning. Secure custodial and storage closets, making sure doors are locked and equipment and supplies are stored properly.
As assigned, haul, load and/or set up chairs, tables, podiums, flags and bunts for special functions
Medical Center Custodians may:
Perform cleaning duties in assigned areas of a medical facility in both patient and non-patient areas, including but not limited to: mopping, pushing and pulling carts, wall washing, vent cleaning, vacuuming, etc.
Responsible for cleaning and safeguarding of assigned areas.
Determine supplies needed and efficient usage of supplies. Responsible for efficient usage of supplies. Deliver clean linen and pick up soiled linen.
Clean surgical/clinical areas according to established standards.
Dust horizontal surfaces, empties trash and soiled linen, polish metal surfaces, mop floors between surgical cases.
Wear appropriate cleaning gowns, gloves, masks, etc.
Must be able to start working immediately after employment offer.
Must be willing to work varied schedules, days, nights and/or weekends.
Six (6) months of experience performing cleaning in a custodial cleaning operation or large multi-facility environment.
Experience operating wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbers, polishers, and carpet cleaners, and/or steam extractors to perform comprehensive floor care including, but not limited to: stripping, waxing and buffing hard and resilient floors as well as shampooing carpeted areas.
Experience with disinfection, sanitation and cleaning methods required of public restrooms, surgical and/or clinical laboratories.
Medical Center Custodians must also have:
Prior custodial experience in a large, complex healthcare setting or hospitality environment.
Possess basic computer skills; knowledge of accessing online resources and training.
Must be willing to work with hospital patients.
Background checks required.
Applicants must be able to travel to various UC San Diego locations or Medical centers as assigned.
