DESCRIPTION
The mission of the The Halicioglu Data Science Institute (HDSI) is to lay the groundwork for the scientific foundations of the emerging discipline of data science, develop new methods and infrastructure, and train students, faculty and industry partners to use data science in ways that will allow them to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems. HDSI has been established as an independent and innovative academic unit that works collaboratively with schools, divisions, departments, centers, students and faculty across multiple disciplines throughout the entire campus.
HDSI has 25 Faculty FTE on board, through a headcount of more than 51 faculty with split appointments in multiple departments. This highly talented data-driven ecosystem of thought leaders is only expected to grow in the coming years. HDSI is the administrative home for the undergraduate B.S. major and minor in Data Science, and three new graduate programs; Master of Data Science Online, MS in Data Science and PhD in Data Science. The undergraduate program has 1,200+ students across our major and minor programs. Our newly launched graduate programs are home to 199 MS students, 44 of which belong to our Online Master of Data Science degree, and 40 PhD students.
This position functions to service TILOS (85%) and Faculty Assistant for dept. (15%):
As Assistant to the TILOS Director, the incumbent will provide a variety of complex administrative support functions for the project. These include: service as the official point-of-contact for the project's industrial members and subcontractors, coordinating and scheduling appointments, conferences, teleconferences, meetings and services; coordinating travel arrangements and preparing travel expense reports; integrating technical and non-technical correspondence, presentation materials, reports, manuscripts and grant proposals; preparing all documentation for overseas visiting scholars, performing a wide range of duties that require tact, independent judgment, diplomacy, organizational skills, and discretion.
This position additionally provides administrative support to permanent faculty and/or U18 lecturers and their research groups in the department. They will coordinate all activities required to support faculty members (5-8 faculty) with diverse and complex activities such as: short and long range planning; administration; teaching; research; community/campus service. Responsibilities include organizing conferences, symposia, special events; preparation of reports and correspondence. The incumbent is also responsible for financial activity at a laboratory level for a variety of funding sources including purchasing. They will also independently manage high volume of international visitors and related tasks and act as a liaison between faculty and dept./campus in matters concerning academic file preparation, travel, shipping, purchasing, housing, catering, facilities, and contracts/grants.

This is a hybrid position, consisting of three days working on campus and two days of remote work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated experience making complex foreign and domestic travel arrangements.
Demonstrated ability to independently schedule, arrange and coordinate seminars/meetings/special events with national and international scientific participants and to create/maintain effective marketing material such as flyers and newsletters.
Ability to proofread and edit material for correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation Excellent math skills.
Demonstrated experience with PC and/or Mac computers and experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and computerized calendaring.
Demonstrated ability to organize workload, set priorities, meet frequent deadlines, and work independently and effectively under pressure/constant interruptions.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $40,700 - $81,850 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $19.49 - $39.20
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
