DESCRIPTION
Oversees and coordinates the design, specification, installation, configuration, and support of building networking infrastructure, smart media conferencing, collaboration spaces, server rooms, and various building display and portal technologies. Works with appropriate research layer leaders, building architects, and external consultants and contractors on the specification, installation, and configuration of various specialized facilities and spaces to ensure their integration and interoperability with existing and planned building technologies. Manages Tier I and Tier II support issues associated with desktop systems. Develops and documents problem solving/resolution procedures. Provides technical support to customers and records and monitors resolution of incidents. Manages high performance network infrastructures required to support research activities of the Institute. Performs complex security control activities to prevent unauthorized access to networked resources. Other duties within scope of description.
Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced systems infrastructure professional with a full understanding of industry best practices and campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues that are moderately complex in scope. Selects methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Evaluates new technologies including performing simple to moderate cost / benefit analyses.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions.
General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance. Experience troubleshooting vendor provided systems and networks (WAN/VLAN/Routers, etc).
Strong knowledge and experience with DNS, TCP/IP and network services such as NIS, NFS, Sendmail, Active Directory, IMAP, Samba, HTTP, Apache, MySQL, FTP, SSH, SFTP, and other network-oriented services/protocols.
Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Experience designing, programming, and debugging in web specific languages such as HTML, XML, PHP, and Perl.
Extensive knowledge of Windows desktop and server administration techniques, including web file & print services. Proficiency working with Active Directory. Advanced knowledge of operating systems such as Windows, and MacOS.
Experience with hands-on end user support such as in a help desk environment. Experience supporting a wide range of users with a variety of desktop support needs.
Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.
Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
Moderate to advanced knowledge of industry virtualization technologies and familiarity with both VMWare and Hyper V server virtualization platforms.
Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $63,400 - $142,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.36 - $68.39
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
