As an Organized Research Unit of UC San Diego, the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is considered a leader in data-intensive computing and cyberinfrastructure, providing resources, services, and expertise to the national research community, including industry and academia. Cyberinfrastructure refers to an accessible, integrated network of computer-based resources and expertise, focused on accelerating scientific inquiry and discovery. SDSC supports hundreds of multidisciplinary programs spanning a wide variety of domains, from earth sciences and biology to astrophysics, bioinformatics, and health IT. SDSC launched Comet, a petascale supercomputer that joins the Center’s data-intensive Gordon cluster. SDSC is a partner in XSEDE (eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment), the most advanced collection of integrated digital resources and services in the world.
The Research Data Services (RDS) Division of SDSC is responsible for providing a full range of CI services funded by recharge, contracts and grants, and state funds. Services provided by the division include: Co-Location facility, server hosting and management (Windows and Linux), virtual machine and elastic cloud compute hosting, networking; desktop support services; and data storage.
Incumbent will apply skills as a seasoned, experienced systems integration professional with a full understanding of systems and software integration concepts to evaluate, resolve and implement medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. Incumbent will resolve a wide range of business processes, system functionality, implementation issues and system and software integration issues. Incumbent will demonstrate competency in selecting tools, methods and techniques to obtain results. Incumbent will also give technical presentations to associated team and other technical units. Responsible for evaluating new technologies including performing moderate to complex cost / benefit analyses. Incumbent may lead a team of systems / infrastructure professionals.
Incumbent works in the Research Data Services team at SDSC, advancing their mission of providing cost effective, enterprise solutions for research computing. Incumbent works with complex, advanced systems and networks in production, research and performance evaluation environments. Responsible for running user code to debug issues customers may have. Incumbent will work with critical data systems to deliver a platform for computation, research and data sharing across the organization. Incumbent works closely with other groups to integrate research computing systems into the SDSC networking, data mining and user environments and collaborates on security procedure development and implementation. Incumbent will work independently with minimal supervision on routine and basic to advanced integrations.
Incumbent develops and supports complex user-driven cyberinfrastructure resources catering to small and large scale research computing and storage needs. Cyberinfrastructure resources heavily leverage existing and custom technologies - incumbent integrates those technologies skillfully and diligently to meet user support criteria. Incumbent analyzes new and existing but yet unused technologies to evaluate viability of integrating into the suite of SDSC RDS services.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Experience researching and evaluating new technology and solutions for moderately complex environments.
Experience with scripting languages (object-oriented, functional, logic programming) including UNIX shell and Windows PowerShell.
Strong experience with a major configuration management software, including application packaging and installation.
Strong knowledge of hardware, specifically past and cutting edge CPU and GPU architectures and configurations, and effects on integration evaluations
Experience working directly with end-users (customers) to troubleshoot issues, explain technology, and create solutions.
