Under the direction of the Sunshine Market Storekeeper Supervisor, the Sunshine Market Lead will lead a team of part time students in providing an excellent customer experience at the Sunshine Market and UCSD Farmers Market. The Sunshine Market Lead will be responsible for all administrative aspects of the Markets in the following areas: financial management, daily operation, staffing, training, equipment, inventory and will provide work direction to employees and assist with staffing decisions (i.e. hiring, training, evaluating, staffing and scheduling). Duties also include the safety and security within the Markets during operational hours.
Overtime during peak periods required.
Alternative work schedule including holidays, weekends and evenings required.
Thorough understanding of retailing principles including cashiering, customer service and sales. Cash handling and sales reconciliation experience. Excellent customer service skills gained through experience in a highly diverse customer service oriented retail environment.
Working knowledge of retail and food operation in a large scale environment, such as a University, that includes food service polices and practices and leading, directing or supervising staff and part-time (student) employees. Experience developing and managing complex work schedules. Experience delivering training.
Strong understanding of food handler responsibilities and personal safety policies and ability to train staff to comply with food handler responsibilities.
Inventory management experience, including knowledge of shipping and receiving, procurement experience, and record-keeping experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic retail security practices and techniques including cash control practices and procedures, and safeguarding keys/property.
Excellent analytical skills to analyze data and financial statements, strong math skills with ability to establish and calculate retail prices and discounts.
Strong knowledge of computerized cash register and cash handling systems and procedures with the ability to communicate and resolve system software and hardware problems, such as basic hardware connections or failures, printer jams and troubleshooting simple software issues like login issues.
Proficiency in PC use and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn and use inventory management applications.
Skill at exercising judgment for effective problem solving with the ability to resolve disputes and handle irate customers effectively.
Proven organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload effectively, produce accurate work products, meet deadlines and work independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people including vendors, faculty, staff and students. Superior interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy. Ability to model and advocate UC San Diego's Principles of Community.
DOJ/FBI and DMW background checks and clearances required prior to employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License. May be required to participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
Travel to conferences and trade shows may be required.
