New long-term temporary student services opportunity available. The Study Abroad Coordinator will provide crucial intake advising to students about education abroad options and assist with program development for Global Seminars (GS), as well as the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP), the Opportunities Abroad Program (OAP) and UCSD’s Global Exchanges. Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of student recruitment and academic department outreach activities. Develop and update fliers, handouts, outreach materials, web sites, and social medial campaigns. Establish and maintain professional networks with faculty and key UC San Diego offices.
Participate in team advocacy efforts campus-wide. Assist with planning and implementing general pre-departure and country-specific orientations for students going abroad. Work with academic advisers in the Colleges and academic departments to review education abroad options, processes, participation rates, and to facilitate the integration of education abroad coursework with UC San Diego degree requirements. Assist with administrative duties including maintenance of databases, student records, and generating reports. Work may be accomplished virtually, in-person or hybrid depending upon Covid policies and the needs of the unit.
Anticipated Duration: 14 months
Compensation: $23 - $29.50 /hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available
Location: this position will have a hybrid work schedule; 2 days/week on-site required (on-site at La Jolla campus)
Work schedule: Mon - Fri, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Bachelor’s degree in educational, counseling, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advising experience with student populations in a university advising environment, particularly related to living and study abroad.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to employ fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity, including appropriate referrals.
Working knowledge of a higher education academic department, major, minor, and general education requirements which can be satisfied by academic programs abroad, and faculty areas of expertise and support of international programs.
Knowledge of a wide variety of countries, cultures, and foreign education systems. Familiarity with international political, social, and cultural issues as they pertain to study abroad and educational exchange.
Must possess the full range of skills, knowledge and abilities to assess the needs of students while complying with policies and regulations.
Ability to determine appropriate content, design, format, and implement effective pre-departure and cross-cultural orientation sessions.
Demonstrated skill in planning, designing, publicizing, implementing, and evaluating student orientation programs, workshops, and cross-cultural activities and events.
Ability to coordinate, design, implement and evaluate publicity and marketing strategies and student recruitment procedures on a university campus.
