The Strategic Planning Manager is an integral member of the Health Sciences Planning team, which focuses on market and business intelligence, hospital campus and supporting network development, and enterprise/service line strategy formulation.

The Strategic Planning Manager will be involved in all aspects of the work of the division including conducting analyses and research, translating data into meaningful strategy, and developing client-ready deliverables. The individual is expected to contribute to multiple projects concurrently, frequently in an independent leadership role. The Strategic Planning Manager will interact with clients and key stakeholders, present materials, and facilitate select meetings/strategy sessions.

The Strategic Planning Manager reports to the Director, Health Sciences Planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts strategic market analyses and provides intelligence support to drive informed organizational business decisions.
  • Leads assessments to identify growth opportunities based on market factors, external/internal demand, and other forces.
  • Develops strategic plans and business plans working collaboratively with growth and development executives, service line leaders, and other teams such as finance.
  • Leads or supports major and minor facility projects through clinical services strategy planning, capacity and utilization analyses, and displacement planning.
  • Monitors health care and local market trends and creates summary reports for executives and system leadership.
  • Manipulates, analyzes, and generates actionable insights using state discharge data, demographic data, claims data, calculators/forecasters, and other large data sets.
  • Designs complex modeling for advanced analytics.
  • Creates new analytic tools, methodologies, and resources that advance the capabilities of the Planning division.
  • Develops timelines and goals for projects, and delivers against milestones.
  • Completes other duties as assigned in support of the Planning division.


  • Nine (9) years or more of related experience, education/training in strategic planning, business development, or a related area, working within a hospital/health system or health care-related company (e.g., health care strategy consulting firm), OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five (5) years or more of related experience/training in strategic planning, business development, or a related area, working within a hospital/health system or health care-related company (e.g., health care strategy consulting firm).

  • Excellent organizational, project, and process management skills.

  • Expert written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and diplomacy skills.

  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization and facilitate diverse teams.

  • Comfort presenting to groups in-person and virtually.

  • Ability to function with a high degree of autonomy.


  • Experience in hospital strategic planning functions (e.g., market research, demand analysis, forecasting).
  • Expert level skill in quantitative/data analysis, Excel, pivot tables, qualitative/market research, and presentation software (PowerPoint).
  • Master’s degree in health care administration, business administration, public health, or a related field.
  • Prior work experience in an academic medical center.
  • Experience with ArcGIS or other mapping software.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
