DESCRIPTION
This laboratory studies the mechanism involved in regulation of lipid metabolism and chronic inflammation. Experiments are performed independently and as part of a team.
Under supervision, the Staff Research Associate will perform laboratory bench experiments related to studies in mouse models of lipid abnormalities and Alzheimer’s disease using different strains of genetically modified mice. The Staff Research Associate will conduct administration of test compounds, process brain tissue for immunohistochemistry and image analysis, capture and quantitate images, and measure protein and mRNA expression using flow cytometry, ELISA, western blot and RT-PCR. Use aseptic technique for tissue culture. Other duties assigned as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Theoretical knowledge of life science disciplines as is typically required by a Bachelor's Degree in a field related of research such as animal physiology, biology, molecular biology, immunology, and biochemistry.
Experience performing standard laboratory techniques (pipetting, weighing). Ability to read, interpret and apply protocols in conducting research. Ability to follow experimental protocols.
Demonstrated experience with cell culture, PCR and western blot.
Demonstrated experience with animal handling and test compound administration.
Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new computer programs. Demonstrated knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook. Ability to perform data entry.
Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to work with a variety of personnel from different laboratories.
Skill in accurate record keeping paying close attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as to effectively document research procedures. Ability to read, comprehend and discuss research materials.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with animal models.
Experience with LC-MS.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
Must be willing to work with small animals.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $51,949 - $61,972 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $24.88 - $29.68
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
