This position will remain open until filled.


The laboratory's focus is the generation of cardiac phenotypes from human embryonic stem cells.

Under close supervision, perform standard laboratory procedures with human embryonic stem cells to investigate mesoderm and cardiomyocyte formation. Will perform routine differentiation and analysis of pluripotent stem cells and other experimental procedures. Will create new induced pluripotent stem cell lines from patient derived fibroblasts and participate in the publication of scientific manuscripts based on this research.

Additional duties include overseeing IPS colonies and maintaining a database of all fibroblast strains. Will also perform molecular biology techniques to generate in situ probes and transgenic constructs. Perform general lab duties including ordering reagents for stem cell work as well as laboratory maintenance, ordering laboratory supplies; serving as primary contact for vendors, physical plant office personnel, etc. Engage in training to learn new techniques.


  • Theoretical knowledge as is typically acquired by a Bachelor’s of Science degree in an appropriated field of science or technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working with human embryonic stem cells.

  • Experience with molecular biological techniques to include DNA (including cloning), RNA and protein preparation, quantification and analysis (southern, northern and western blotting and immunoprecipitation techniques).

  • Demonstrated experience with cell culture techniques.

  • Skill in the preparation of reagents and maintenance of laboratory stocks.

  • Ability to follow established Safety and Biohazardous Material Guidelines.

  • Proven experience with basic molecular biology laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, balances, pH meter, etc.

  • Proficient experience in data analysis using Microsoft tools.

  • Proven ability to record scientific data in a well-organized laboratory notebook. Strong organizational skills to keep clear and accurate records.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability in using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse personalities and situation.


  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
  • Must be willing to work in an environment where biological, chemical and radiological hazards are present.
  • Must be able to work overtime and occasional weekends if necessary as research dictates.
