People Programs and Rewards includes the following units: Compensation; Benefits & Employee Programs; Disability Counseling and Consulting; Faculty and Staff Assistance Program; Leaves; and Retirement Resource Center. The Leaves unit provides comprehensive leaves services for organizational units with integrated HR services and leaves consultation for distributed HR units.

The position applies advanced knowledge of job-protected leaves to manage the leave of absence (LOA) process for employees and managers. Handles complex or escalated case management to provide consultation and guidance to employees and their managers throughout the leave process. Acts as liaison with workers compensation, disability management, benefits, labor and employee relations, timekeeping, and payroll.


  • Thorough knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, PFL, PDL, Workers Comp, Military Leave, ERISA, HIPAA and applicable state and federal laws. Advanced knowledge preferred.

  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations affecting employee benefit programs. Advanced knowledge preferred.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and safeguard information.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and with confidence.

  • Skill and sensitivity in dealing with others. Ability to handle complicated issues with professionalism and sound judgment.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate, and problem-solve across all levels of the organization.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to provide a high level of service and adapt to shifting priorities.

  • Knowledge of computer databases and Windows software. Ability to learn to computer systems and programs.


  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
