The Preuss School UCSD is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As part of UCSD, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop best practices in the preparation of low-income, urban students for college admission.
Under supervision, works and coordinates with other school custodians concerning all custodial service and minor maintenance duties for The Preuss School. Provides complete custodial assistance to Preuss School administration, staff and scholars supporting the operation and maintenance of the campus. Performs general maintenance and minor repairs. Move furniture and equipment, perform basic installations, set-up for events and other related duties as assigned. Serves as a contact for security and safety issues during night and weekend hours.
Regular work schedule is Monday - Friday, 4:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.
Must be able to work occasional flexible, variable hours, including days and weekends as needed.
Six months of experience performing cleaning in a custodial cleaning operation or large multi-facility environment.
Experience operating wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbers, polishers, and carpet cleaners, and/or steam extractors to perform comprehensive floor care including, but not limited to: stripping, waxing and buffing hard and resilient floors as well as shampooing carpeted areas.
Experience with disinfection, sanitation and cleaning methods required of public restrooms.
Experience in securing a building, including responsibility of keys; familiarity with use of commercial door locks, panic hardware, and hold-open devices.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse group of scholars, staff, parents, and visitors.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret written information and instructions. Ability to prepare written reports and complete forms.
Experience implementing proper and safe chemical use and mixture. Knowledge of and experience using and testing environmentally safe and sustainable cleaning methods and green products. Ability to provide input and make suggestions to improve work methods and products.
Ability to make minor repairs to building and equipment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
Ability to plan, organize, and efficiently carry out details of a work schedule.
Physical strength, stamina, and endurance with the ability to do vigorous manual work, climb stairs, and lift heavy loads.
Ability to request supplies, maintain inventory, and control stock for assigned areas.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work in a safe manner according to local, federal, state, and university requirements.
Must be flexible and able to effectively adjust to changing operational priorities requiring assignment of special projects and/or different area assignments as necessary. Ability to work independently and with diverse teams of people.
DMV, DOJ and FBI background checks and clearances required prior to hire.
Must pass TB (Tuberculosis) screening.
Duties may require direct contact and/or supervision of children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); serves as a mandatory reporter in support of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).
Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $39,463 - $49,068 Annually
The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
