DESCRIPTION
The mission of Audit & Management Advisory Services (AMAS) is to assess and monitor the university community in the discharge of its oversight, management, and operating responsibilities in relation to governance processes, the systems of internal control, and compliance with laws, regulations and University policies including those related to ethical conduct by providing relevant, timely, independent, and objective assurance, advisory and investigative services using a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate risk and improve effectiveness. AMAS is responsible for performing financial, operational, compliance, and information systems audits and investigations of the main campus, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the Health Sciences Enterprise, including UCSD's teaching hospitals.

The Senior Auditor position performs the full scope of auditing encompassing financial, compliance, information systems, and effectiveness reviews according to professional auditing standards. Performs and directs audits and management studies of highly complex areas at UCSD. Assesses organizational and operational risks for assigned review area, designs and prepares audit programs, establishes contact with operating personnel, conducts fieldwork, prepares work papers, drafts reports, and follows up on observations and recommendations. Exercises individual judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for developing audit conclusions. Provides functional advice, training and/or guidance to less-experienced audit professionals. On a project basis, provides direction to support audit staff as may be assigned by the Director of AMAS. Communicates and interacts effectively with all levels of management and staff. Normally receives high-level oversight on audit assignments with general instruction provided on new or more complex audit work.

May be required to work nights and weekends as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and advanced knowledge of the audit profession, theories and systems of internal control, and professional auditing standards. Ability to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of administrative and financial processes or controls and to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of operations and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
Broad and thorough knowledge of finance, accounting, business and systems operations. Knowledge of IS auditing, good business practices, and/or general administration. Knowledge of healthcare concepts and principles is preferred.
Experience completing special projects, or other high-level management activities. Ability to perform and/or supervise audits and/or management studies of a high level of complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity and innovation.
Skills to determine and apply appropriate policies and practices in the completion of audit assignments.
Ability to demonstrate judgment and initiative to obtain high levels of performance and efficiency, either individually or from assigned staff, in a broad variety of responsibilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work independently with all levels of University personnel, including management and faculty, and to facilitate agreement on issues and corrective actions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate sensitive and complex ideas to all levels of management, as well as external customers and stakeholders.
Project management skills to manage multiple competing priorities and provide direction to support staff.
May require specialized expertise in enterprise software and relational databases. Skills to apply IS concepts and techniques to evaluate the processing integrity and controls of operational systems.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Major in an appropriate field such as Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent extensive audit experience
Professional certification preferred (CPA, CIA, CFE, and/or CISA).

This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), and requires immediate reporting of Clery Act crimes occurring on Clery Act geography to the UC San Diego Police Department (UCPD). It is the responsibility of the CSA to ensure they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the Clery Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UCPD without delay.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $94,400 - $176,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $45.21 - $84.67
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
