Under general supervision, incumbent will be responsible and accountable for key activities associated with Department of Radiology outpatient clinical locations. This includes scheduling MRI exams and procedures, registration, processing paperwork, verifying and obtaining authorizations for all MRI outpatient and in-patient exams, assisting staff and patients, providing directions and answering a multi-line phone system. Coordinate requests and resources to optimize efficiency of testing sequence and resource utilization. Provide requesting person information as to starting time and clinical preparation. Transport patients as needed to and from the MRI department. Assist Chief Technologist in ordering and maintaining supplies.
Graduation from high school and three (3) years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Thorough knowledge of health information and medical terminology.
Proven experience in insurance authorization (Medi-Cal, Medi-cal TAR, Medicare, HMO).
Experience working in a clinic front/desk reception area, with multiple phone lines and a large volume of incoming calls.
Experience working within a clinical setting, dealing with patients and related personnel.
Proven experience using patient scheduling systems, information retrieval and data entry. Knowledge of medical records management.
Proficiency in the use of database management and word processing software in a windows environment; demonstrate skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, and email.
Effective interpersonal/communication skill including tact, diplomacy and flexibility dealing with diverse personalities and situations. Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service.
Excellent knowledge of the English language including proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Active listening skills and ability to act upon patient’s concerns with a caring demeanor. Ability to accurately assess urgency of problems and act accordingly.
- Knowledge of UCSD Medical Center and SOM policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of health information and medical terminology. Experience with insurance and authorization verification.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Variable work schedule.
- Must be willing to work Saturdays, flexible hours, and some holidays when required.
- Must be able to travel and willing to work La Jolla and Hillcrest Campus.
