DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet-designated organization, which is a prestigious recognition that applies to only 10% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet is the "gold standard" for nursing excellence and is based on strengths in five key areas, which include transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements and empirical outcomes. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011.

The new to specialty IMU/PCU allows experienced nurses to continue their nursing journey and expand their clinical skills. Extended clinical orientation and PCU classroom courses have been developed especially for nurses new to the PCU specialty. With over 50 hours of specialty coursework, The UC San Diego Progressive Care Orientation Series prepares the new to PCU RN to care for our specific patient populations and understand UC San Diego policies and guidelines. Participants learn through didactic, case study, reflection and skill-based coursework preparing the learner to work within the three levels of care identified within Progressive Care, including Acute Care, Acute Care with telemetry and Intermediate Level of Care (IMU). PCU Series learning objectives parallel the curriculum of AACN (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses) and developed to support a culture of excellence and safety.

10 East is a 26-bed progressive care unit with an average 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio. Patients are on continuous cardiac monitoring, receive titratable IV medications, and benefit from various diagnostic tests and interventional treatments. High acuity patients with both chronic and acute health conditions are admitted to 10 East. Diagnoses vary widely but include ones such as CHF, NSTEMI, Endocarditis, Stroke, COPD, DKA, and alcohol withdrawal. Become a part of our 10 East Medicine team! We have a broad mix of nursing staff from new graduate nurses to seasoned nurses with over 20 years of experience. Our nurses have a wide variety of educational backgrounds and professional development is encouraged. Hands-on and classroom based educational opportunities are available through our Nursing Education, Development and Research Department (EDR) consisting of Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists. Unit support includes manager, day shift and night shift assistant manager, dedicated advance practice specialist, clinical nurse educator, 12-hour resource nurse, certified nursing assistants and tele techs.

Nurses on 10 East Medicine also participate in shared governance at both the unit and organizational levels, contributing to the overall goals of UC San Diego Health’s Nursing Strategic Plan, the development of professional nursing practice, and improved quality outcomes.

While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.
