DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, which is a prestigious recognition that applies to only 10% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet is the "gold standard" for nursing excellence and is based on strengths in five key areas, which include transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements and empirical outcomes. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011.

10 East is a 26-bed acute care progressive care unit with an average 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio. The patient population consists of high acuity adult medical, cardiac, and neuro/stroke patients. 10 East Medicine has a broad mix of nursing staff. We have new graduate nurses just starting their journey into the nursing profession as well as seasoned nurses with over 20 years of experience. Our nurses’ educational backgrounds vary from ADN to BSN to MSN. Nurses on 10 East Medicine also participate in shared governance at both the unit and organizational levels, contributing to the overall goals of UC San Diego Health’s Nursing Strategic Plan, the development of professional nursing practice, and improved quality outcomes.
