This position monitors daily operations and overall function of the Shiley Eye Institute Operating Rooms and Pre-operative/PACU areas. Oversees staff while maintaining budget and all Nurse Manager functions according to the job description. This position will work closely with leadership and team members from the Shiley Eye Institute as well as Perioperative Services for UC San Diego Health. There are currently four surgical suites at Shiley with plans to expand in the near future.
The Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care.
Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others. Manages nursing and administrative operations in specific patient care areas. Implements changes to patient workflows and operational processes. Maintains 24 hour line management responsibility for the administration of fiscal, material and human resources. Other duties as assigned.

A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing.
Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
BLS/CPR or BART certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience; including at least three (3) years of recent Operating Room RN experience in an outpatient surgery center or arena which supported ophthalmology surgery.
A minimum one (1) year recent supervisory or management experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
Proven knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
Strong leadership/management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- Experience with Ophthalmology, Scrubbing and Circulating.
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
