The 11th Floor is a 36-bed acute care progressive care unit at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest Campus located near downtown San Diego.

The unit provides care for a population of high acuity adult medical-surgical patients and, as a core stroke unit of our Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, receives and treats the most complex stroke cases.

Hospital Service lines include General Medicine, Family Medicine, Cardiology, Ortho Spine, Ortho Trauma, Plastic Surgery, Neuro Stroke, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Acute Care Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Urology.

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.

  • Seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience with demonstrated increase responsibility, including at least three (3) years of acute care RN experience at the Telemetry level of acuity or higher.

  • Must have at least one (1) year of supervisory and/or management experience.

  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.

  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.


  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or relevant area, with strong preference for Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • Nursing certification in relevant area (e.g. CNML, PCCN, NIH Stroke Certification, etc.).
  • PCU or ICU RN experience.
  • Neurology and stroke experience.
  • RN experience at a Magnet-designated hospital.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
