UC San Diego Health's Interventional Radiology department perform procedures that offer patients non-surgical treatment options for many conditions and advanced treatments that are not widely available at most hospital systems. We have one of the world’s first InSightec ExAblate MR-guided focused ultrasound units and other advanced technologies, such as helical CT scanners, that improve our ability to diagnose and treat our patients.

Applies skills and experience as a professional nurse educator to ensure optimal clinician knowledge and skills through education and training in either general or specialized nursing education and/or training. Serves as a preceptor for entry or intermediate Clinical Nurse Educators. Leads implementation of new programs.

This position can be filled as a CNE3 or CNE4 level depending on experience and qualifications.


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.
  • Current ART certification, or BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.
  • A minimum of three or more years of relevant experience (for CNE3 Level).
  • A minimum of five or more years of relevant experience (for CNE4 Level).
  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation and skills/competency learning and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a broad spectrum of professional nursing practices and issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.
  • Strong skills in written and verbal communications. Ability to collaborate productively in a team environment with all levels of internal and external personnel and to convey complex clinical information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and resources, and to develop positive working relationships with nursing staff and leadership.
  • Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on deadline.
  • Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. (for CNE4 level).
  • Applies extensive knowledge of clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at the medical center. Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource. Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a nursing discipline. Leads or oversees the implementation of new programs (for CNE4 level).


  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Previous experience as an IR clinical educator in a teaching hospital.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
