UC San Diego Health's Jacobs Medical Center BMT unit offers the only Blood and Marrow Transplant program in San Diego that is affiliated with a renowned School of Medicine and accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Hematopoietic Therapy (FACT). We focus on Blood and Marrow Transplant on our 36-bed private room unit. The growing list of diseases, as well as nonmalignant conditions we treat includes: lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease, acute and chronic leukemia, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, sarcoma, testicular cancer, aplastic anemia, auto-immune and genetic diseases. Additionally, the unit cares for the Cellular Regenerative Medicine service line and delivers cutting edge, research therapies.
The Assistant Nurse Manager supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

A Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN).
RN license issued by the State of California.
BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
Current ONS Chemotherapy Certification or commitment to get Chemotherapy Certification within one (1) year from hire date.
Five (5+) or more years relevant experience, including at least two (2) years recent acute care RN experience, and one (1) year in BMT or Oncology.
Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have decision making, problem solving and prioritizing skills.
- A Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- Recent clinical charge/supervisory experience as an RN.
- Current OCN and/or BMTCN (Blood & Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse) certifications.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
