Position Overview: The Revenue Accounting & Compliance Director role is part of Financial Operations within Business & Financial Services (BFS). This position is responsible for monthly and year-end close, all aspects of technical accounting, reporting, and processing of revenue accounting, cash management, audit, and PCI compliance. Directs decision making, process improvement, develops and implements internal control policies, and maximizes the capabilities and value of the financial system. Serves as an expert in US GAAP revenue recognition under ASC 606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers, to design and improve UC San Diego's revenue processes. Responsible for enhancing and refining the accounting operations for the division; and overall responsibility for the PCI Compliance program for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). This position directs the Accounts Receivable, Cash & Merchant Services teams.
As a Revenue Accounting & Compliance Director, a typical day may include performing ad-hoc analysis for cash management, revenue and financial ratios, maintaining revenue accounting principles, practices, and procedures to comply with U.S. GAAP requirements (ASC 606). Be the point of contact for the internal and external auditors for all revenue inquiries and perform deferred revenue reconciliation. Work closely and collaboratively with other teams within BFS and across campus to ensure a high level of integrity around revenue recognition, including reviewing contracts or statements of work to identify appropriate billing and revenue recognition.
The incumbent should be familiar with all applicable federal grants management regulations, GAAP accounting principles, GASB standards and effectively communicate to all levels of faculty, management, and staff.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Proven experience (Typically 8+ years) in general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation and analysis.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to present, articulate, and defend analysis with key stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to integrate strong technical knowledge in data management and analysis with advanced financial management experience to successfully perform as a primary central office change agent charged to continuously improve and streamline existing processes and practices.
Broad knowledge of financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements. Advanced knowledge and experience in the theories, principles and practices of the accounting profession including general and accrual accounting principles, fund accounting, cost accounting, Sarbanes-Oxley act, Government Accounting Standards Board, and Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Thorough interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels. Excellent team skills with ability to develop and manage successful internal and external relationships. Ability to exercise discretion, resourcefulness and good judgment in interacting with diverse populations including faculty and research staff, department and campus administrators, vendors and financial sponsors. Tact, diplomacy, and flexibility required.
General knowledge and/or experience with Oracle Financial Cloud platform. Experience with financial management systems such as integrated financial and data systems, financial reporting systems and tools, and multiple financial reporting environments.
Revenue recognition experience, including ASC 606.Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze and interpret complex written material, financial data, and computer generated information and effectively communicate results of analysis.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
