DESCRIPTION

Under general direction of the Coding Compliance manager, this position codes diagnosis and procedures via 3M 360 for assigned cases in an Epic account WQ for patients receiving services at UCSD Med. Ctr. Assigns DRG and all applicable APCs for patient accounts and abstracts all coded data into abstracting information system. Responsible for data entry into electronic databases for use in the assessing quality of patient care, outcome analysis, and financial management. Actively involved in communicating and working with Clinical Documentation Specialists.

MINIMUMM QULAIFCTION

  • Credential by A.H.I.M.A. with either R.H.I.A., R.H.I.T. or C.C.S

  • Must have proven coding knowledge with at least three (3) years experience with inpatient, observation, emergency department, and outpatient surgery coding in acute care setting at a level 1 trauma, academic medical center.

  • Proven skill with computers and computer systems.

  • Successful completion of A.H.I.M.A. Health Information Management Program

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three to five (3 - 5) years coding experience with proven knowledge of inpatient/outpatient/surgery/emergency room records with RHIT/RHIA/CCS credential.
  • Epic Experience
  • 3M 360 Experience
  • Charging experience for either Emergency Department or Observation accounts

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must be able to work overtime if required.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
