DESCRIPTION

Participate and assist other engineers in the design and testing of instrumentpayloads to be deployed on autonomous research platforms specialized forautonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), but also unmanned aerial systems(UAS), and autonomous surface vehicles (ASV). Participate in testing commandand control and autonomous behaviors on and off-board platforms. Responsiblerunning scripts using robot operating system (ROS), Matlab, and python in alinux server collaborative environment. Participate in field work logistics ofscientific research including purchasing of equipment and supplies,shipping/receiving of equipment, maintaining laboratory facilities, andinteracting with non-University personnel. Participate in field expeditions andlaboratory measurements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience programming with electromechanical systems using a Linuxoperating system and Python language (preferred experience with ROSframework).
  • Analytical capability to provide plots and charts including analysis ofdata obtained with field and laboratory instrumentation using scientificdata analysis software tools like Matlab or Jupyter notebooks.
  • Detailed initial notetaking and maintenance of documentation of alldesigns and analytical methods for future reference.
  • Ability to assist with the fabrication, testing, maintenance and use ofequipment and multi-functional systems designed by other engineers.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Positive attitude and teamwork required for field testing efforts
  • Availability for 2-3 weeks of domestic or international travel per year

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $48,900 - $102,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $23.42 - $48.99

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
