DESCRIPTION

Kick It California (KIC) is part of UC San Diego’s Moores Cancer Center and is primarily funded by grants from the California Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control. KIC provides free services to help Californians quit using tobacco products. Established in 1992 as the California Smokers' Helpline, KIC was the first statewide, evidence-based, telephone-counseling service for smoking cessation in the U.S. Since then, KIC quit services have been expanded to multiple channels, including: web, chat, text, mobile apps, and Alexa skills. KIC's primary audience is people in California who smoke, vape and use smokeless tobacco. Secondary audiences include: healthcare providers (doctors who directly refer patients to KIC); as well as health departments and community organizations that promote KIC services.

The Product Manager will join a team of Operations, Communications, and IT professionals responsible for maintaining and enhancing KIC services and products across all communications channels. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of product/service development practices to resolve a wide range of issues. The Product Manager will independently oversee the complete development lifecycle of KIC products, including: data reporting and dissemination systems, web and mobile applications, automated text message program, and online chat. Ability to manage the development of products / services / enhancements of diverse scope, size, impact and budget. Demonstrates sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to design, financial, marketing, or administrative problems.

The Product Manager will: gather and analyze data to develop ideas for product enhancements and for new product development; gather, document, and interpret end-user requirements; define product vision, roadmap, and timeline and communicate this to primary staff; create product specifications for technical programmers and developers to use for development; serve as a liaison between technical developers and product customers to prioritize requirements, communicate progress, coordinate testing, and manage product launches; track products throughout their lifecycle to ensure product vision is met and to propose improvements and manage their implementation.

The Product Manager’s primary project will be the design and development of a new data reporting and dissemination system for the organization. The Product Manager will: interview internal and external customers to gather and document reporting needs; document sources of data for reports; work with communications staff to develop minimum viable product (MVP) report formats with talking points and visuals; field test MVP with end-users and incorporate end-user feedback for final report formats; write specifications for technical staff to generate reports; create and disseminate new data reports and dashboards for internal and external customers.

The Product Manager will serve as the primary project manager for the development of a new smoking mobile app. The Product Manager will be responsible for writing progress reports for the products/services they manage.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.

  • Experience with collecting and interpreting data, developing and maintaining databases, filtering data, preparing data reports, and training workers to use reporting systems.

  • Ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's need and the success of a desired product, service and enhancement. Ability to use sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to design, functional, and administrative problems.

  • Proven ability to research, collect and analyze information to use in determining product options or alternatives. Experience distilling user feedback into cohesive summaries of service delivery experiences and opportunities for further development going forward.

  • Experience organizing a community of service customers, providing periodic update meetings, and gathering community feedback. Experience designing interview strategies for assessing market needs.

  • Strong oral communication skills to effectively convey and explain information. Demonstrated ability to present to midsize audiences, effectively communicating service success stores and benefits.

  • Broad knowledge of product development concepts, practices, standards and processes. Experience developing products, services, and enhancements of diverse scope, size, impact and budget.

  • Strong organization and project management skills.

  • Excellent analytical thinking skills. Demonstrated experience gathering information through testing and observation; developing and testing new solutions; and applying new knowledge.

  • Strong written communications skills to draft clear, concise documentation, reports and specifications.

  • Ability to lead, build consensus and promote the exchange of information among project team, internal and external constituencies.

  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.

  • Strong oral communications skills needed to develop and lead project collaboration across diverse research, IT, communications, and operations staff. Positive attitude.
