DESCRIPTION

The Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego aims to conduct cutting-edge research in digestive diseases and to promote scholarly investigations, teaching, service and health leadership and training.

The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and related conditions. Provides comprehensive history and physical exams, orders and reviews diagnostic tests, triages telephone calls, formulates plans of care, and works with the IBD team along with other providers. Writes patient care protocols and procedures. Will also be responsible for clinical research and care of study participants with IBD. Collaborates with the principal investigator (PI) on the management of study participants following research protocols.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the PA or Sr. PA level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

  • California Physician Assistant (PA) license.

  • Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Recent clinical training or work experience in Gastroenterology and/or IBD. (Minimum one year of licensed work experience as a Physician Assistant is required for the Sr. PA level.)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Gastroenterology; specifically Irritable Bowel Disease.

  • Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes

  • Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams and procedures, e.g., laboratory blood tests, x-rays, EKG's, biopsies and GI endoscopies.

  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory values and skill in identifying deviations.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of PCIS/Epic for retrieval of patient data (Computer skills required; PCIS/Epic preferred).

  • Demonstrated experience working in a clinical research environment. Ability to identify potential clinical trials patients

  • Demonstrated experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long and short range treatment plans.

  • Knowledge of study formats, with ability to edit charts and resolve inconsistencies.

  • Skill in patient interviewing, obtaining a concise medical history and acquiring pertinent data.

  • Demonstrated experience in research techniques, such as following a protocol, and in collecting all data precisely.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with gastroenterology.

  • Experience working in a clinic setting.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $153,259 - $201,889 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $73.40 - $96.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
