Under general supervision of the manager, the Orthopedic Tech Supervisor is responsible for supervising daily operations of Cast Room services across multiple sites. Responsible for leadership of the Orthopedic Technology Service and direct supervision of staff assigned to the work unit. Responsible for all administrative, financial, and patient care activities under purview. Provides direct patient care in support of physicians, assures practice standards are being followed by both medical and support staff, implements and monitors quality assessment, assures compliance with all Ambulatory Care and UCSD Health policies, and assures appropriate care for varying clinic and hospital demands are provided.Assists the manager with personnel issues and makes recommendations related to hiring, separations, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, coaching, and training. Ensures compliance with related policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines. Contributes to, and participates in work organization, quality improvement projects, goal setting, and scheduling of staff. Assists the manager to ensure that budgetary guidelines are maintained. Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations.Provides clinical services and acts as a resource to students, residents, fellows and other orthopedic technologists. Responsible for the maintenance of purchasing reports, and maintaining and upgrading technology as needed. Creates and distributes monthly reports to leadership. Provides guidance and supplies data used for strategic planning in expanding Ortho-Tech services to current and future outpatient and inpatient sites, including clinics at La Jolla, Hillcrest, and at Chancellors sites including the Outpatient Pavilion, JMC, and any other off-site clinics for which Orthopedic Surgery provides cast room services. Performs other related duties as required.
Graduate of an NAOT certified program (National Association of Orthopedic Technologists).
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.
Five (5) years of experience as an Orthopedic Technologist.
Knowledge of radiological computerized systems and applications.
Proficient in computer applications to include Microsoft Office, PACS, and RIS.
Experience with developing and managing staff schedules.
Two (2) years supervisory and/or leadership experience in a cast room/ortho tech services.
- Ten (10) years of experience as an Ortho technologist in a large, complex Healthcare environment.
- Certification of Orthopedic Technologists.
- Proficient/Experience with IDX, Epic, and online scheduling systems.
- Familiar with UCSD policies and procedures.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
