This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at ACTRI in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) an organized research unit at UCSD, was established to provide education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area. It encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. It receives partial funding from a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the NIH, National Center for Advancing Translational Science.

The incumbent is responsible for operational analyses, strategy development, and implementation and administrative management for strategic projects and programs on behalf of the Associate Dean of Clinical and Translational Research and the Director of Operations of the ACTRI, in particular for the ACTRI Center for Community Health (CCH).

The incumbent administers all finance, human resources and facilities and other operational activities for CCH, a mid-sized academic/research program. Administers major program components, and some or all of the program's operational requirements. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Is guided by (and has a dotted line reporting relationship to) the Director of CCH to establish center agenda, funding, objectives, but reports to the ACTRI Operations Director.

The incumbent will also collaborate with leaders across ACTRI units in the planning and execution of strategic objectives, operational effectiveness improvements, and strategic staff and organization design, including required restructuring and modifications. The position will perform outreach and communication to various areas of Health Sciences, Campus, and with State/County agencies to coordinate scopes of impact, explore opportunities for collaboration and alignment, and serve as a principal facilitator/advisor with key ACTRI leadership stakeholders.

In collaboration with CCH Senior Leadership, the incumbent will partner with ACTRI units to help design and support processes that deliver services that generate maximum benefit and value and minimize financial risk for the ACTRI. Consults with and advises Director of Operations and Associate Dean in regards to new and enhanced programs, processes, and applications for CCH and other units.

Incumbent works with the CCH Senior Leadership team and subject matter experts, both functional and technical, within the organization to ensure successful outcomes of organizational design projects. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in related area and three (3) years of relevant experience or equivalent experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Terminal degree in a related field (PhD, JD, MD, etc.).

  • Lean Six Sigma, Project Management Professional, or Scrum Master.

  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research preferred. Community partnerships and/or based-organizations, public health, social services/work, public health practices.

  • Solid fundraising experience. This includes grant proposals or other extramural funding.
