DESCRIPTION
Under direction of the supervision of a registered nurse in the assigned department reporting to the Practice Manager, the Medical Assistant will perform a wide variety of patient care activities in support of Allergy, Immunology & US HAEA Angioedema Center, service line clinic activity at its various clinic locations in Hillcrest, La Jolla and Rancho Bernardo. This includes, rooming patients in-person and virtually; record vital statistics on patients as directed, including height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate and basal metabolic index, and track such measurements, ensuring each patient's privacy. Assist with processing and management of patient messages, processing virtual fax systems, assist with provider messages and tasks as assigned and pre-visit planning. Preparation and assistance with patient procedures, administering medications, point of care testing, collecting and preparing laboratory tests and specimens, and patient education.
The successful candidate will have experience working in a fast pace ambulatory specialty setting and have experience managing high volume Epic in-basket messages. Position requires initiative, ability to prioritize critical demands, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team environment, maintain positive relationships with patients, family members, other visitors, and fellow employees. Job standards are to be performed at the high level. Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Requires knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics.
Strong interpersonal skills, exhibiting a professional demeanor to function effectively in diverse clinical/healthcare and community setting.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both through written and oratory methods) to diverse audiences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with Allergy, Immunology & Angioedema patient populations
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification (CPT I or CPT II preferred)
- Bilingual in Spanish
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $57,671 - $57,671 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $27.62 - $27.62
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
