Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently develop and / or oversee research federal and non-federal proposals, awards, outgoing sub-awards, unfunded research agreements and Material Transfer Agreements, maintaining contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research and sponsor policies. Responsible for reviewing, modifying, and executing a wide variety sponsored research transactions (proposals, awards, incoming subawards, outgoing subawards, unfunded agreements, etc.) prepared by Principal Investigators and their designees, funded by a wide variety of sponsors (Prime and Flow-Through) categories (federal, non-profit, industry, state, etc.). Provides guidance and expertise on complex proposals, awards and subawards that may involve multiple investigators and / or multiple sub awards.
Ensure the proper commitment of University resources, verify adequate and fully funded budgets, coordinate compliance with all aspects of special review (Human Subjects, Animal Subjects, Conflict of Interest, etc.), and address conformity with both University and sponsoring agency regulations. Review and execute pre-award, award and post award transactions terms and conditions of moderate complexity and risk for acceptability/compliance with University and sponsor policies. Analyze problems, formulate options, and coordinate resolution of post award and policy related issues. Act as liaison between the University and the sponsoring agencies.
As a C&G Floater, the incumbent is expected to perform duties associated with the various service lines assigned to OCGA, and thus is skilled and experienced. The incumbent could be assigned to any OCGA service line as needed and will be responsible for the full range of responsibilities associated with the following sponsored research transactions:
1) Proposals (from prime and flow-through), 2) Unfunded Agreements, 3) Non-Profit Agreements, 4) Federal Prime and Flow-Through Agreements, 5) Award set-up, 6) Outgoing Subawards, 7) MTA's
As a C&G Floater, the incumbent acts as as a Lead member of the team for purposes of mentoring and training, and exhibits advanced experience to support team members in the wide variety of sponsors and C&G complexities. Assist Principal Manager, and offer by-the-minute support to C&G Officers and Senior C&G Officers.
The incumbent will support transactions from all campus researchers (Health Sciences, General Campus and Marine Sciences). The incumbent will be assigned delegation of authority for submission of proposals and execution of agreements from the Chancellor for all assigned responsibilities (proposals, awards, subawards and unfunded agreements).

Bachelor’s degree or higher with focus in fields such as life sciences, physical sciences, technology, engineering, contract law, intellectual property law, public administration, or political science and four years related research administration experience or combined equivalent.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
Experience in drafting correspondence, moderately complex award language, and agreement modifications.
Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Ability to work with detail and review of a large volume of moderately complex documents rapidly and accurately. Demonstrated ability to prioritize heavy workload, meet deadlines, cope with peak workload periods and apply creativity and originality in time-sensitive problem solving situations.
Proven competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of productivity applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio. Experience compiling, reviewing, and analyzing information/data, and recommending alternatives, when performing moderately complex problem resolution. Experience conducting complex financial analysis and review of budgets. Ability to analyze data through spreadsheets and prepare concise presentations.
Current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
Thorough knowledge and proven ability to perform review of complex funding/contract solicitations including Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and to analyze and negotiate complex, moderate-risk terms and conditions of resulting awards/contracts in relation to receipt of University funding from extramural sponsors.
Strong ability to analyze, interpret, and comprehend conditions of award/legal agreements of moderate complexity and risk and recognize impact of potential problems and formulate subsequent resolutions. In-depth knowledge of terms and conditions of a variety of moderately complex award instruments (e.g., contracts, collaborations/consortia, non-disclosure/proprietary information agreements) with an emphasis on publication restrictions, patents, copyrights, rights in data, indemnification, conflict of interest, etc.
Proven comprehension skills consistent with the ability to understand information contained in complex requisitions, technical specifications, purchase contracts, business reports, etc and be able to relate it to applicable policies and procedures.
Ability to independently resolve potential conflicts with extramural sponsors, as well as with University faculty/researchers and administrative staff.
Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and develop written policies and procedures.
Excellent/effective oral and written communication skills, including ability to construct complex legal language as well as persuasive correspondence to convey information in a clear, organized, and concise manner. Demonstrated excellent customer service/interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and patience when interacting with all individuals both internal and external to the University.
Advanced contract and grant knowledge and experience. Ability to share experiences and knowledge with other staff.
Experience training and mentoring of staff. Ability to act as lead contract and grant officer.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
