DESCRIPTION

The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) is an Organized Research Unit at the University of California, San Diego.

The goals of the institute include:1) Providing an academic home for the discipline of clinical and translational science;2) Enhancing biostatistics/bioinformatics capabilities that leverage unique UCSD resources;3) Developing novel technologies to improve clinical research;4) Forming research alliances to translate scientific discovery into best practices;5) Training the next generation of clinical and translational scientists.

The ACTRI has partnered with San Diego State University, J. Craig Venter Institute, the Burnham Institute, Salk, La Jolla Institute of Allergy and Immunology and Palomar Pomerado Hospital to expand our research potential. In addition, the ACTRI collaborates with industry to advance clinical research opportunities.

The BERD (Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design) Unit supports the mission of the ACTRI to provide research resources, training, and collaboration opportunities for ACTRI scientists, health care providers, and the community.

The Lead Research Data Analyst will be part of the ACTRI BERD (Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design) unit, contributing to the research resources and collaboration opportunities. Leveraging leadership experience and expertise in statistical science for all phases of research, to enhance integral longitudinal data for clinical trials and analysis needed for dynamic observational studies.

Applies extensive knowledge as a research professional as it relates to biostatistics with an in-depth understanding of statistical and / or other analysis techniques designed to support the ACTRI BERD Unit for multi-modal support for study support and development. Serves as lead for team of biostatisticians providing service areas including but not limited to study design, statistical analysis, publishing and communications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.

  • Experience creating visualization dashboards and complex statistical programming and working experience with statistical methods and models incorporating a broad range of variable types and traditional and contemporary statistical approaches.

  • Advanced skills associated with statistical analysis, database management and systems programming. Extensive experience working with statistical software and providing support for clinical studies using various toolsets, particularly for R and SAS.

  • In-depth knowledge of research function. Experience with proposal writing involving defining specific aims, primary and secondary outcomes using the appropriate statistical methods.

  • Advanced skills in analysis and consultation. Excellent communications skills for collaborations with all study principal investigators on studies, along with all constituents for interpreting, visualizing, and summarizing results in all stages of studies support.

  • Strong project management skills. Ability to lead and influence within and external to project team. Experience collaborating in dynamic and high performing teams. Ability to motivate and provide leadership and BERD program development plans for future growth and continuous improvements.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading projects and/or studies in various phases and research settings requiring integral statistical analysis and support.

  • Advanced ability to collaborate effectively and work in a matrix organization, involving teams and constituents from multi-discipline experts of all levels.

  • Advanced ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.

  • Advanced research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.

  • Advanced ability to think creatively to recommend action steps or strategize solutions relative to research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's or PhD degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
