DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, serves as Lead MRI Technologist at the Department of Radiology School of Medicine MRI sites. Generates acceptable, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the appropriate region of the human body. Follows imaging protocols designated by request or radiologist direction. Incorporates proper patient education, screening for history, allergies and appropriate patient preparation for MRI procedure and communicates pertinent information to the radiologist. Performs a variety of MRI procedures on a diverse population. Administers contrast media following protocols related to anatomical site specific criteria. Maintains patient confidentiality, dignity, comfort and care. Demonstrates and applies knowledge of the principles of MRI safety. Troubleshoots and resolves PACS related issues that pertain to MRI examinations. Participates in performance improvements within the department.

Develops training procedures and systems to enhance skill-levels of staff in their section/area. Contributes to and anticipates in work organization and scheduling; selection, training and evaluation of staff. Working with Clinical Operations Manager, ensures scheduling coverage at multiple clinical sites. Participates in cross-training to obtain seamless operations within the imaging department to include, but not limited to other off-site clinic locations. May assume specialized tasks & responsibilities related to specialty areas such as MRI on multi-platform magnets. Operates CD burners, document scanners and similar accessories. Demonstrates knowledge of computers and new technology such as Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), Computerized Radiography (CR), and Digital Radiography (DR). Demonstrates knowledge of various imaging procedures to prepare patients and equipment. Contributes to cost containment by maintaining office supplies, forms, linen and other medical supplies. Job standards are to be performed at the EXPERT level. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a licensed Technologist ARRT or ARMRIT and CPR certified.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date

  • Previous experience as a Sr MRI tech.

  • Theoretical knowledge and/or equivalent advanced education in MR physics. Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and related positioning for accurate imaging. Skill in recognizing structures that are visualized and ability to demonstrate anatomic relationships, normal and pathology

  • Demonstrated skill in performing Magnetic Resonance scanning techniques to render diagnostic images. Extensive knowledge of Magnetic Resonance physical principles and instrumentation to obtain maximum diagnostic information, recognizing equipment and scanning limitations. Demonstrated knowledge, experience and competency in neuro, musculoskeletal and body MRI imaging including familiarity with GE and Canon MRI.

  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of the principles of magnetic resonance safety.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, courteously and effectively on the telephone and in person.

  • Skill at positively interacting with patients, referring physicians and radiologists.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current licensure by the State of California, Department of Health Services as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (C.R.T.)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, weekends, on-call and some overtime if necessary for unexpected staffing issues.
