Under direction, provide daily work direction and guidance to the Field Services Representatives involved in parking services, special event set-up, valet, security and enforcement for all campus parking facilities. Schedule and coordinate work assignments, issue equipment, conduct daily briefings, and assist Operational Leader in providing feedback for the supervision of staff. Provide foot, bike and vehicle patrol of parking lots and structures. Serve and assist campus community and visitors with requests or issues related to general parking services, special events parking, security or enforcement of policies. Assist with parking and traffic control for special events or activities. Park and retrieve vehicles. Answer calls and dispatch Field Services Representatives as needed. Write and compile daily activity and incident reports. Maintain and report parking statistics.

  • May be assigned overtime or alternate work schedules, such as evening shift, weekends and holidays.


  • Three (3) years of related experience, preferably in public contact work and demonstrated ability to read, write, perform mathematical calculations, and follow verbal and written instructions. Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Proven ability to interpret, articulate and enforce policies, regulations and procedures. Experience working in a public contact, community and/or customer service environment.

  • Demonstrated success in directing/leading the work and activities of others. Experience scheduling and coordinating a work force. Ability to reorganize schedules quickly and make decisions to resolve urgent or emergency field conditions. Experience scheduling and coordinating a part time or student work force.

  • Proven experience working on a customer service team; ability to take ownership of customer needs and improve service delivery.

  • Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills. Demonstrated experience effectively handling difficult/sensitive situations, public relations problems and complaints.

  • Proven ability to demonstrate sound judgement and respond quickly to urgent or emergency situations. Ability to resolve traffic control conditions during an emergency situation or until supervisor or Community Service Officer is notified of existing condition. Ability to direct traffic when needed. Ability to assist in any emergency situation as directed by supervisor or director or Community Safety representative.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate motor vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions.

  • Ability to operate parking ticket dispensers, electronic fee computers, and ticket reader/validator parking systems.

  • Demonstrated written report writing experience and skills including the proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate in a helpful, diplomatic, tactful, effective professional manner in person, on the telephone, radio or electronically. Ability to work effectively in teams or individually as well as with diverse groups. Experience providing individual or group orientation and training to employees.


  • DOJ/FBI, and DMV background checks and clearances required prior to hire.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License. Will participate in the California DMV's pull notice program.

  • Must be able to obtain a CPR and First Aid Certificate.

  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of climates.

  • Must be able to spend long hours on foot patrol including walking, standing or climbing stairs.

  • Must be able to spend long periods of time patrolling on foot, bicycle or Segway enforcing university parking.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lb. parking barricades and equipment.

  • May be assigned to work at Hillcrest Medical Center as needed.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $44,788 - $59,090 Annually

The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
