DESCRIPTION
Under supervision of the Senior Custodial Supervisor, the Lead Custodian will assist in the scheduling, assigning and coordination of the work of one or more teams of Senior Custodians. Lead Custodians assist in determining duties; utilization of materials and equipment; development of work methods; and the ordering, issuing and/or storing of custodial materials and equipment. Prepare and maintain daily time and payroll records for Supervisor's approval. Assist Senior Custodians with labor entries in work management and payroll systems. Inspect assigned buildings and custodial work assignments to ensure that custodial standards are met and work is being done in a safe and efficient manner. Provide on-the-job training to employees in cleaning techniques, and maintenance and use of equipment and cleaning supplies. Responsible for daily distribution and collection of custodial keys to custodial staff.
Complete emails, any required forms, attendance reports and supply orders using Customer Portal system. Review status reports such as daily activity logs to ensure smooth transition between shifts. Conduct quarterly supply inventories and order supplies monthly. Write, submit, or call-in maintenance work orders. Perform custodial duties per Facilities Management's (FM) Building Services' task and frequency schedule or during staff absences and vacations. Effectively communicate with staff and with internal and external customers. Respond to any requests for assistance, including emergency assistance, via radio, telephone or other communication regarding flood calls, spill containment and slip hazards. Provide urgent custodial assistance to Campus Police and/or other areas of Facilities Management as necessary. Instruct Senior Custodians in department uniform standards and use of proper safety gear to ensure work practices comply with department expectations, safety rules and work methods.
- May be required to work overtime and work alternate work hours and shifts.

- Thursday - Monday, 1:00pm - 9:30pm
- Saturday - Wednesday, 9:00am - 5:30pm
- Saturday - Wednesday, 6:00 pm - 2:30am
- Saturday - Tuesday, 5:00pm - 4:00am
- Sunday - Wednesday 5:00 pm - 3:30am
QUALIFICATIONS
At least two (2) years of experience performing professional cleaning or housekeeping duties in a large scale environment such as a University or Hospital setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Demonstrated experience leading a team of custodians. Ability to effectively prioritize, meet deadlines, direct and coordinate a variety of custodial duties such as the cleaning of rooms, labs, floors and surfaces.
Demonstrated experience conducting basic inspections for cleanliness, and monitoring the cleaning and sanitizing of facilities.
Strong knowledge of safe use of cleaning solutions and supplies, including safe chemical use and mixture.
Demonstrated experience operating and providing training on the use of wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbers, polishers, carpet cleaners and steam extractors to perform comprehensive floor care including: stripping, waxing and buffing hard and resilient floors as well as shampooing carpeted areas.
Demonstrated experience performing minor maintenance on custodial equipment and determining when building repairs and equipment replacement are necessary.
Proven ability to safeguard keys issued for the securing of rooms and buildings in assigned areas.
Proven experience using various computer systems and applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database management, email, and the internet (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Outlook, etc.). Ability to transfer information and figures into report format. Written and computer skills must be sufficient to complete basic forms, logs, reports and email correspondence.
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations.
Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically with internal and external customers from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to train and instruct a diverse workforce utilizing strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Demonstrated experience using verbal communication skills to provide customer service and to respond to custodial and emergency requests.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
DOJ/FBI Live Scan background checks and clearances required prior to hire.
DMV check and clearances required prior to hire. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
Must carry UC provided mobile phones during work hours.
Must be willing and able to work in morgues/gross anatomy/pathological laboratories where human/animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of the worker and/or contaminated by radioactive biohazardous substances.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $40,173 - $52,952 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $19.24 - $25.36
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
