DESCRIPTION

Under close supervision, the Laboratory Research Assistant will perform operational level work on the pre-clinical development of cross complimentary approaches to integrate systemic therapies with radiotherapy through 1) elucidation of DNA damage response pathways 2) identification and characterization of novel radiosensitizers 3) development of tumor targeted approaches to improve the therapeutic ratio of radiotherapy. In contrast to current radiosensitization approaches, our strategies are biomarker driven and histologically agnostic. Maintain lab records, and order supplies on a as needed basis. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year basic laboratory experience and/or two years of college-level coursework including courses in the natural, physical sciences (microbiology); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to learn and perform cell culture, media preparation and general principles of maintenance of hoods and 37° C incubators.

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment including centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, and electrophoresis equipment.

  • Ability to perform basics tissue culture techniques.

  • Experience with computer software to analyze data, store results and compute raw data.

  • Ability to properly handle radioactive, chemical and biohazard materials.

  • Ability to carry out radioactive work.

  • Ability to follow basic research protocols and instructions closely.

  • Ability to work with other staff members, students, faculty etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical knowledge of microbiology.
  • Ability to adhere to established UCSD guidelines for safety and environmental issues.
  • Experience with laboratory mouse work.
