DESCRIPTION
The Neural Crossroads laboratory at UC San Diego, directed by Dr. Lara Rangel, investigates whether rhythmic activity is important for coordinating the processing of information in organized networks of neurons. A major goal is to provide new insight into the single cell interactions underlying the occurrence of brain rhythms measured in rodents and humans. Recent projects have focused primarily on the collection and examination of single-unit and local field potential recordings from freely behaving animals. Our most recent work concerns recordings in rodent learning/memory, interoceptive, and auditory systems.
The Laboratory Assistant will perform serve as a responsible laboratory safety coordinator, assist (and develop independence) in the collection (through animal training, chronic electrode building, and electrophysiological recordings) of single-unit and local field potential data in behaving rodents, and assist (and develop independence) in the analysis of neural data. The incumbent will also have minor administrative/organizational duties.
- The incumbent must be capable and comfortable working with rats, and complete and pass the small animal handling course at UCSD.
QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of applicable college level coursework in biology, psychology, neuroscience, or cognitive science.
Previous experience with training rodents in associative learning experiments.
Experience with neural data analysis in Matlab or Python.
Previous in vivo electrophysiology experience in rodents.
Knowledge of basic principles in animal training.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $45,999 - $54,079 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $22.03 - $25.90
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
