This position will be hired at the Lab Assistant 1 or Lab Assistant 2 level depending on the experience of the selected candidate.

This is a Laboratory Assistant position for the Palmer lab in the Psychiatry Department. The main duty is to assist in isolating DNA from tissue samples and preparing it for NGS applications, according to the laboratory protocols. Keep excellent records about the sample processing according to established procedures. Identify problems and bring them to supervisor's attention. Assist with keeping laboratory equipment clean and in working order.
One (1) year of laboratory experience or two (2) years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Experience in handling molecular biology equipment - multichannel pipetters, epMotion robot, tape station, etc.
Extreme attention to details, high standards for accuracy and documentation. Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
General laboratory experience.
Must have the ability to work under own initiative as well as to work meticulously under close direction.
Excellent time management skills.
Good communication skills.
- Experience with high-pace high-throughput laboratory work
- Academic courses in relevant subjects, such as genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, organic chemistry.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
- Must be able to work in the lab with DNA tissue samples.
- Must be able to work overtime as needed.
