As an Organized Research Unit of UC San Diego, the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is a leader in data-intensive computing and cyberinfrastructure, providing resources, services, and expertise to the national research community, industry and academia. Cyberinfrastructure refers to an accessible, integrated network of high-performance computing resources and expertise, focused on accelerating scientific inquiry and discovery. SDSC supports hundreds of multidisciplinary programs spanning a wide variety of domains, from earth sciences and biology to astrophysics, bioinformatics, and health IT.
The SDSC Sherlock Division delivers high performance production cyberinfrastructure and policy, business, operational, and technology advice supporting information technology research and development, for federal and state agencies, academia including University of California (UC) and industry partners. The Sherlock division operates Sherlock Cloud, which provides a managed multi Cloud solution that complies with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and NIST Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) compliant requirements.
The Division primarily focuses on building cyberinfrastructure for government, academia and research community that offers a multitude of high-touch, value-added, turnkey solutions that span Cloud Computing, Compliance, Cybersecurity, Big Data Management, Analytics and Data Science. The experts in Sherlock Division have developed and deployed specific services designed to provide a solid and secure foundation for a wide range of research and business initiatives. The Division currently supports the federal government including, Department of Defense (DoD), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Science Foundation (NSF), and a number of academic and UC entities, and complies with the specific requirements of each organization.
As an Information Systems Analyst for the Sherlock Division, evaluate, design, install, manage, and maintain a large installation of servers and client workstations running Linux and Windows. The incumbent will work with critical data systems to lead the effort to deliver a platform for the Sherlock Division FISMA, HIPAA and CUI projects. S/he will maintain databases; design, implement, test, and document complex software systems for network communications, data analysis, data retrieval, data archival; installs, and maintain productivity, business and research applications; provide remote computer assistance to researchers and their teams. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for making technical recommendations related to computing hardware, network components, operating systems and software architectures as well as be responsible for performance by monitoring, maintaining, administering, developing, and testing computing, network, and application components related to computing platforms. The incumbent will act as the first line of technical support for customers supported by the Sherlock Division and balance workload across multiple projects and initiatives.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software. Demonstrated skill at administering moderately complex security controls and configurations to computer hardware, software and networks.
Demonstrated experience (at least two years) with a medium sized (~100) installation of Linux and Windows Servers including knowledge of cross-platform computing and data interchange between Linux and Windows in a heterogeneous environment.
Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions. Demonstrated experience administering DNS Servers; LDAP (Windows Active Directory including Domain Controllers), PKI Architecture, 2-factor Authentication (including RSA appliances and Azure AD), Web proxies, and SMTP servers.
Knowledge of Microsoft 365 technologies.
Familiarity in working with support and ticketing systems. Troubleshooting issues or triaging them as required.
Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Understanding of and experience troubleshooting client, server and peripherals-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Experience in incident response and digital forensics, including data collection, examination and analysis.
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
Must be able to work on call during non-standard hours.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $63,392 - $142,798 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.36 - $68.39
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
