New long-term opportunity available through UC San Diego’s Temporary Employment Services. This position will be responsible for system administration of servers and networks supporting administrative, academic and research activities. Applies IT professional concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complex issues in one or more IT areas of specialization. Perform highest tier of technical support to users’ desktop, laptop and mobile computer equipment, including specifying, configuring, purchasing, installing, testing, updating and troubleshooting. Conduct complex analysis and modeling for the development and implementation of critical new business processes, technologies and systems. Maintain a safe and secure system and network environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors by patrolling and monitoring systems and networks.

Anticipated Duration: 3 months

Compensation: $33.52 - $35.92 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

Location: main La Jolla campus. This position will be fully on-site.

Work schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00 - 4:30


  • Knowledge of workstation operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, iOS) and server operating systems (Windows server, Mac OS Server, and Unix).

  • Ability to install software and troubleshoot basic problems with computing devices, peripherals and software.

  • Basic understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with database applications such as Filemaker Pro, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

  • Knowledge of database systems, data connectivity solutions, COM and CLR.

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
