The University of California’s only school of international affairs, the School of Global Policy & Strategy (GPS) provides a unique resource for training leaders, creating ideas, and building networks for the governance of globalization and its local impacts. GPS is internationally renowned for its innovative programs, superb faculty and outstanding students and now stands among the world's top graduate schools of international relations and is the established leader in its focus on Asia and the Americas. GPS instructs a diverse student body consisting of 60% domestic and 40% international students in MPP, MCEPA, MIA, BA-MIA, MAS, joint PhD with Department of Political Science and executive education programs. GPS also administers the International Studies Program, a fast-growing interdisciplinary program with over 1700 declared undergraduate majors, that offers a rigorous curriculum for undergraduate students interested in international affairs.

Offering nine B.A. degree options, three combined BA/MIA programs, and a minor program, the International Studies Program explores the interaction between the international and national, global and local, contemporary and historical ideas shaping globalization. GPS is also the parent organization to major research centers: Center for Commerce and Diplomacy (CCD), Center on Global Transformation (CGT), Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, 21st Century China Center, Fudan-UC Center on China, Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), Policy Design and Evaluation Lab (PDEL), Laboratory on International Law and Regulation (ILAR), and Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology (JFIT).

Position is responsible for system administration of servers and networks supporting administrative, academic and research activities. Applies IT professional concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complex issues in one or more IT areas of specialization. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Perform highest tier of technical support to users’ desktop, laptop and mobile computer equipment, including specifying, configuring, purchasing, installing, testing, updating and troubleshooting. Conduct complex analysis and modeling for the development and implementation of critical new business processes, technologies and systems. Maintain a safe and secure system and network environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors of GPS and its affiliates by patrolling and monitoring systems and networks.


  • Advanced knowledge of workstation operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, Chrome OS) and server operating systems (Windows server, Mac OS Server, and Unix.

  • Knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies. Skills applying security controls to computer software and hardware (e.g. Antivirus, Anti-Malware, and SSL Certifications).

  • Proven ability to install software and troubleshoot basic problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Basic understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the use and knowledge of networking protocols such as DHCP, TCP/IP, etc

  • Experience with workstation operating systems (Windows 10 and 11, Mac OS)) and server operating systems (Windows 2016 and 2019 server, Mac OS X Server, and Unix (Linux or BSD).

  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.

  • Advanced knowledge with AD, email, web and printing services: IMAP/POP/SMTP, HTTP/HTTPS/SSL/TLS, SSH, LPD/LPR/IPP/SNMP

  • Familiarization with TCP/IP, UDP, FTP, SMTP, HTTP, SSH, NFS, SMB, TELNET, ARP and RARP protocols.

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with database applications such as Filemaker Pro, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. Knowledge of database systems, data connectivity solutions, COM and CLR

  • Strong ability to create functional programming scripts using appropriate languages such as Perl, PHP, command shell, VBScript, Powell Shell Scripts, or ECMA/JavaScript.

  • Experience with design and development of training programs and materials for business process and specific information systems applications. Ability to coordinate, schedule and deliver training content utilizing different media types. Ability to adapt the training needs of others at various learning levels.

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Knowledge of client/server architecture and ODBC, ADO/OLEDB, and ADO.NET API data access technologies

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
