This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at our La Jolla Campus and remote.

DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health Sciences is a multi-billion dollar organization encompassing 18 academic departments (16 clinical, 2 basic sciences), 3 professional schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Wertheim School of Public Health), 2 hospitals, and numerous programs dedicated toward fulfilling the Health Sciences education, research, and clinical missions. The Health Sciences Financial Hypercare Unit is being established under the VCHS Research Administration Office and consists of teams of experienced research administrators and financial analysts. These teams will be deployed to various Health Sciences departments to assist with financial account reconciliation and transactional support (Cost Transfers, Direct Retros, Fund Changes, etc.) of department financial and faculty portfolios.

The Health Sciences Hypercare Research Administrator/Trainer will partner with the Health Sciences SWAT team providing comprehensive reconciliation, analysis, and clean-up, targeting specific issues that may impact a department's financial portfolio (Project 0, default accounts, sponsored project, general funds, recharge cores, LSAs, Clinical Trials, etc.). Additionally, the HSHC Research Administrators will provide in-depth fiscal management training and resources to department staff, ensuring staff can adequately maneuver through the financial and payroll systems required to perform their fiscal duties.

The Hypercare Research Administrator/Trainer will be assigned to departments that need additional resources to support a comprehensive breadth of scope to include sponsored projects, general funds, recharge cores, clinical trials, LSAs, etc in support of a robust financial portfolio. The incumbent will provide in-depth and extensive fiscal management support and training for new and existing fund managers across Health Sciences. The incumbent will work closely with department stakeholders and leadership and collaborate with the SWAT team to ensure transactions are completed accurately and timely.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five years of related experience/training.

  • Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.

  • Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

  • Demonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.

  • Maintains knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies. Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.

  • Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements.

  • Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration.

  • Ability to perform outreach, education and consensus building activities with the campus community to encourage their involvement and championing of new and renewed research administrative training programs.

  • Demonstrated advanced skill in group facilitation indicating understanding of the principles of group dynamics and the needs and sensibilities of a diverse work force.

  • Advanced skills in conceptualizing and developing theoretical and practical frameworks that describe complex ideas in understandable, usable ways, and transforming concepts into meaningful training programs.

  • Demonstrated experience developing training guides, programs, materials and modules through various platforms for varying levels of employees and faculty stakeholders. Applies knowledge of adult learning and instructional development theory to determine the appropriate methodology or intervention to effectively teach new and existing learners.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,400 - $142,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.36 - $68.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
