DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, assigns ICD and CPT/HCPCS codes for patients receiving emergency department services at UCSD Health System. Assigns all CPT/HCPCS and ICD codes based on appropriate documentation and Official Coding Guidelines which generate the appropriate APC level assignment through the encoder. Also responsible for assigning facility E/M level, infusion/injection, and additional bedside procedure charging. Reviews and updates as appropriate all pertinent abstracting data. Responsible for data entry into electronic databases for use in assessing quality of patient care, outcome analysis, and financial management. Actively involved in communicating coding and documentation requirements to clinicians, and others who use the data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have coding knowledge or two (2) years of experience in acute care setting with RHIT/RHIA/CCS.
Coding and charging experience with emergency room records/injections/infusions.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $83,624 - $103,982 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $40.05 - $49.80
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
