Under the direction of the Director of EM Marketing and Communications, the Graphic and Media Design Specialist plans, creates and manages the production of print and electronic marketing media for UC San Diego Enrollment Management, and contributes to the overall communication direction. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced communications professional to produce design and layout for a variety of non-routine and moderately complex print publications and digital media as well as direction and editing of video projects.

In this role, the incumbent establishes a coherent design aesthetic for Enrollment Management through a thematic use of graphic design that reflects the graphic identity, brand and mission of UC San Diego. The Specialist develops and produces original print publications and graphic designs, provides creative direction, and manages vendor relationships for a wide range of recruitment and yield-related materials, including, but not limited to:

* Print: brochures, direct mail, admission packet, flyers, promotional items, event and fair displays* Electronic: graphic elements for websites, videos, emails, social media; e-publications; UI/UX wireframes* Branding: logos and graphic identity

The Specialist provides creative art direction and concepts for Enrollment Management including Office of Admissions recruitment and yield videos. They edit and produce videos utilizing knowledge of industry standards for video creation, export and delivery; edit and create motion graphics for videos; coordinate with vendors, locations and talent; and manage photo and video shoots when required.

The Specialist provides excellent customer service to end-users within the department, across the campus and general public. They work independently and collaboratively with a diverse group of staff, students and vendors, demonstrating a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures, as well as good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

This position will be eligible for a Hybrid flexible work arrangement, which could include a non-standard work schedule, and/or the ability to work off-site part of the time.


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way. Strong knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere, Fireworks, MS Word, Excel, and Visio.

  • Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work. In-depth experience working with CRM and CMS tools, including HTML.

  • Knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs. Experience in the use of streaming software such as Windows Media Player, Real Producer, Quicktime, Flash Player, YouTube, Vimeo. Familiarity with RSS technology.

  • Strong skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.

  • Thorough understanding of organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications. Ability to schedule and monitor a multitude of project-related tasks, perform a number of different tasks simultaneously, and respond to inquiries rapidly without sacrificing attention to detail while maintaining accurate records and quality output, and meeting deadlines

  • Proficient technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with team to evaluate and design the integration of new marketing and social media methodologies, in terms of both process and systems.

  • Proven ability to quickly understand and learn complex processes and procedures, prioritize a heavy workload, consistently meet deadlines and cope with peak cycles of production demand. Must perform well with the minimum of direct supervision in unstructured situations while applying creativity for effective problem solving.

  • Proven track record of effective collaboration with management, supervisors, peers, and co-workers and with other individuals, offices, and programs on campus.

  • Critical thinking skills, excellent organizational skills and proactive problem-solving / problem resolution skills.


  • Job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory clearance based on background check results.

  • Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18). Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.
